ABOUT
Once, amidst the desolate streets of besieged Leningrad, the synchronized ticking of metronomes sounded as a powerful symbol of resilience against oppression, becoming a beacon of hope to a brighter future.

Sadly, even today, the world isn't as peaceful as we wish it were. Some still believe they can claim parts of the world for themselves, altering borders in their favor, driving people out of their homes, and disregarding the fundamental human rights…
The suffering of innocent children, women, and men dominates news headlines daily. Yet, we must ask ourselves, what actions are we taking to alleviate their plight and offer them hope?

As a symbolic act of peace and freedom, we must strive to ensure that the metronomes continue to tick in defiance of oppression and as an emblem of hope for those in need.

Do you own a metronome? If so, would you be willing to contribute a 30-minute recording of it ticking at 60 beats per minute within your everyday surroundings, whether indoors or outdoors, capturing a natural sound balance (approximately 3-5 meters from the microphone)?

For those without a physical metronome, fear not. Free alternatives are readily available on various app stores or right here on this website.

A mix of these recordings will be live-streamed via satellite as part of the EBU ART'S BIRTHDAY 2025 radio party.

If you're interested in joining this project, have any questions, or wish to share your recordings, please don't hesitate to reach out to me at planktijd@planktone.be
